The students of 3\u00baA have reached the final phase of the \u2018Investigate and Publish\u2019 competition<\/strong>, an initiative organized by the Fundaci\u00f3n para el Conocimiento Madri+D<\/em> of the Community of Madrid. This contest allows students to showcase their investigative spirit and share the interdisciplinary projects they develop in the classroom.<\/p>\n

The group submitted their article \u2018Madrid Tells Me a Story\u2019<\/strong>, the result of a cross-curricular project developed throughout the school year with the guidance of teachers Imelda Trufero<\/strong> and Esther S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>, connecting Music and Digital Technology<\/strong>. They also received valuable support from Silvia Sotomayor<\/strong>, their Language and Literature teacher, in writing the article.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, March 29<\/strong>, students Carlos Peiro Aporta<\/strong>, In\u00e9s Calvo Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, Fernando Fern\u00e1ndez Villalobos<\/strong>, Diego Fern\u00e1ndez Candilejo<\/strong>, and C\u00e9sar Guti\u00e9rrez Moren<\/strong> presented their work at the 14th \u2018Madrid Is Science\u2019 Fair<\/strong> at IFEMA, proudly representing the entire class. They expressed how proud they feel of the project and emphasized the key role of their teachers:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThey are the foundation of our work. They pushed us to improve, and without them, we wouldn\u2019t be here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

An Interdisciplinary Project<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The \u2018Madrid Tells Me a Story\u2019 project involved building a scale model<\/strong> featuring iconic monuments of Madrid\u2014such as the Medieval Christian Wall<\/strong>, Monastery of Las Descalzas Reales<\/strong>, Church of San Gin\u00e9s<\/strong>, Bocherini\u2019s house in Lavapi\u00e9s<\/strong>, and the Teatro de la Zarzuela<\/strong>\u2014each linked to different musical eras: Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and the 20th Century<\/strong>. Every monument was paired with a prominent composer of that period.<\/p>\n

Students designed and 3D-printed<\/strong> the buildings, and also built robots<\/strong> inspired by the composers of each era: a harp for Juan Hidalgo<\/strong>, an organ for Tom\u00e1s Luis de Victoria<\/strong>, a cello for Bocherini<\/strong>, a car symbolizing Federico Chueca\u2019s imprisonment<\/strong>, and a setup of medieval instruments<\/strong>. They also created a video game<\/strong> linking each building to its musical and historical context, featuring an original soundtrack composed by the students using elements from each era\u2019s musical style.<\/p>\n

Before starting, students conducted in-depth research on each musical period and its most influential composers. They also visited central Madrid<\/strong> to explore the monuments firsthand.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe went beyond just studying the architecture. We discovered how the history of these buildings connects to music. That was one of the most fascinating parts of the project,\u201d<\/em> the students shared.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Joy of Sharing<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

\u201cConnecting different subjects through projects like \u2018Madrid Tells Me a Story\u2019 is incredibly enriching. It helps us learn more dynamically and visually,\u201d<\/em> says Fernando, one of the article\u2019s authors.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

For many, the highlight was working as a team<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWhat I enjoyed the most was spending time with classmates I didn\u2019t usually talk to. Now they\u2019re friends,\u201d<\/em> says In\u00e9s.
\u201cWe each gave our best, and we\u2019re proud of what we\u2019ve built together,\u201d<\/em> adds C\u00e9sar.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u201cThe most satisfying moment was seeing the model fully assembled for the first time. After so much work, it felt like proof that we had done something great,\u201d<\/em> Diego reflects. Presenting their project to the public at IFEMA<\/strong> was the cherry on top.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Biggest Challenge? Robotics.<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

\u201cDesigning, programming, and assembling the robots was the toughest part\u2014we\u2019d never done anything like it before,\u201d<\/em> they explain. The team used Bitbloq<\/strong> for the robotics and Scratch<\/strong> to program the game.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This project helped the students gain hands-on skills in 3D design, programming, music, and teamwork<\/strong>, while also showing how knowledge from different disciplines can come together in a fun, creative, and meaningful way.<\/p>\n
